U.S. Economic Development Administration Supporting Projects in Seven States with Nearly $14.6M
09/21/2010
"The Obama administration is committed to helping main street businesses create jobs and increase their global competitiveness," said U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke. "These EDA grants will help support job creation and economic growth in these communities by developing strategies and projects that foster business development and keep companies competitive."
Here are just some of the projects the EDA is helping to fund:
Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, will receive $3.5 million to build a LEED certified Southeast Wisconsin Innovation Center, a business incubator for biomedical, life science, and biotech startups.
Danville, Illinois, will receive $3 million for a roadway and rail overpass bridge to support the city's industrial area.
Washington County and Eastport, Maine, will receive $1.4 million to build and rehabilitate the Eastport Business Center and establish the Maine Marine Energy Center. The center will support the production of parts for the tidal energy generation industry. The facility will be the first marine renewable energy manufacturing plant of its kind in the United States.
