Thailand-Based Royal Interpack North America To Establish Manufacturing Facility In Anderson, Indiana
03/11/2015
RPNA is a member of the Thailand-based Royal Group, which also operates a fully-integrated PET bottle recycling plant and an FDA-approved extrusion and thermoforming operation in Riverside, California.
The company will invest $11.86 million to lease, renovate and equip a 40,000 square-foot facility at 3619 W. 73rd Street in Anderson. With building upgrades already underway, the company expects to be operating in the facility by late April, producing approximately 24 million pounds of clam shell containers annually for fruits, vegetables, bakery, deli and other food service items that are sold to processors, packers and distributors, with plans to increase capacity to fifty million pounds by 2016.
“Indiana is a key strategic location in our expansion plans due to its proximity and logistical access to target markets,” said Visanu Chawla, CEO of Royal Group.
The company will process R-PET plastic sheets from the recycling process into FDA-approved, environmentally-friendly and sustainable products in Anderson. As the company’s second U.S.-based operations, RPNA’s Indiana facility will be its hub catering to Midwest, East Coast and Canadian markets.
As an incentive, Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Royal Interpack North America, Inc. up to $675,500 in conditional tax credits based on the company's job creation plans. These tax credits are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The city of Anderson will consider additional incentives.
RPNA produces up to 100 percent R-PET packaging solutions, which meets recognized standards for health and safety, quality, hygiene and the environment, as certified by the British Retail Consortium, IOP Standard, the FDA and the American Institute of Baking. The company is also ISO 9001:2008-certified.
“Pick a point on the map, and you’re likely to find the home of a Hoosier employer,” said Governor Mike Pence. “Indiana is scattered with international companies, each choosing to locate their U.S. operations right here. RPNA may be one of Indiana’s first Thai businesses, but if trends continue, other companies from the region will be soon to follow.”
