Finland-Based Valmet Corporation Expands Lancaster County, South Carolina, Manufacturing Facility
10/24/2014
Tracing its roots back to a small shipyard outside of Helsinki in the 1750s, Valmet operates a manufacturing facility at 992 Quality Drive in Lancaster as well as a service office in Aiken. The company offers services and technologies covering everything from maintenance outsourcing to mill and plant improvements and spare parts. The company expects the expansion to be complete by January 2015, with hiring for the new positions beginning in September 2014.
"Valmet has appreciated working with the State of SC in our expansion of our Pulp, Paper and Power Services in North America. On behalf of the 1,100 North American employees of Valmet, I would like to thank the South Carolina Department of Commerce for their support to make our Lancaster facility a reality, said Valmet - North America Area President Bill Bohn.
"It's always exciting to see one of our existing companies make the decision to expand - it proves that South Carolina has the workforce and business environment that they need to be successful. We congratulate Valmet on their expansion and the 40 new jobs they are creating in the Lancaster community, and look forward to working with them as they continue growing in our state,” Governor Nikki Haley said.
"This expansion is yet another example of South Carolina's manufacturing prowess. Having foreign-based firms, such as Valmet Corporation, increase their investment and presence in our state is an affirmation that South Carolina is just right for globally respected companies,” explained Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt.
