Germany-Based Blackwave Plans San Antonio, Texas, Manufacturing Operations

07/06/2026
Germany-based aerospace manufacturer Blackwave plans to establish operations in San Antonio, Texas. The $2.5 million project is expected to create up to 250 jobs.

The investment will include the retrofit of a 35,000-square-foot facility at Port San Antonio, where the company will manufacture advanced composite overwrapped pressure vessels used in rockets and spacecraft.

“We are really focusing on the space market now,” said Felix Hacke, Chief of Staff at Blackwave. “We already have a solid customer base, also in the satellite industry, and now are targeting more and more the launch industry, where the tank sizes just get quite big.”

Blackwave develops and produces advanced composite overwrapped pressure vessels (COPVs) for rockets, spacecraft, and other space applications. The company’s operations include advanced composite manufacturing, pressure vessel engineering, research and development, and production for commercial space and defense customers.

“We hosted the company here on multiple occasions and, ultimately, Port San Antonio was the best location for this project,” noted Sarah Carabias Rush, President and CEO of greater. “Port President and CEO Jim Perschbach and his team were looped in pretty early on because it was clear the connection to the strengths of Port San Antonio were there.”
