Taiwan-Based PharmaEssentia Plans Puerto Rico, Manufacturing Operations
02/14/2026
The investment will include the construction of a new 40,000-square-foot manufacturing facility that will support growing demand for BESREMi (ropeginterferon alfa-2b), a treatment for hematologic diseases, including cancer. Production is scheduled to begin by 2027.
“Expanding manufacturing capacity outside Taiwan is a core strategic priority for PharmaEssentia as we continue to strengthen supply resilience, scalability, and geographic diversification,” said Ko-Chung Lin, Ph.D., Founder and Chief Executive Officer of PharmaEssentia. “We are proud to take this important step toward establishing U.S.-based manufacturing, with Puerto Rico serving as a future center for the U.S. market. This investment underscores our long-term commitment to reliably serving patients worldwide as demand for BESREMi® continues to grow.”
PharmaEssentia Corporation is a fully integrated global biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering, developing, manufacturing, and commercializing innovative therapeutic biologics for hematologic diseases and cancer. The company’s pipeline emphasizes treatments for rare blood cancer conditions such as myeloproliferative neoplasms, alongside other serious diseases.
“Puerto Rico continues consolidating its position as a hub for advanced manufacturing, with the talent, infrastructure, and regulatory expertise that global companies seek,” noted Economic Development and Commerce (DDEC) Secretary Sebastián Negrón Reichard. “This investment from Asia demonstrates that our island is successfully competing for high-value, long-term projects.”
